Running late, hoping Tom hasn't closed out his issue yet. :)

Pasadena San Gabriel Unit
Our December Unit Game was held on December 12, as a STaC game with the
Western Conference. It was a lightly attended session throughout the
conference, but our game contributed 16 tables out of 36 in play for
Open Pairs.
*Arthur and Dominique Moore* were the big winners, taking first place in
the conference with a 68.85% game -- not a small feat in a 16-table
26-board game! *Peter Szecsi and Amr Elghamry* took second in our game,
and third in the conference, with a 63.33% game.
In January we have two Sunday afternoon Unit Games on the calendar:
January 9 and 23. Hopefully these will take place as planned! Game time
is 12:30 (not 1:00!), with reservations and proof of COVID vaccination
required. For reservations, contact Miriam Harrington at (626) 232-0558.
New Club Masters in the unit include *Jonathan Fuhrman* and *Susan Kane*
(two of my students!), and new Bronze Life Master is *John Horn* from
Glendora. Congratulations!
The Unit 556+PPD virtual bridge club is still going strong with games
every day but Saturday. I've turned day-to-day club management back over
to Paula Olivares for a couple of months. The full game schedule is
available at bridgemojo.com.
I had a cruise scheduled for the second half of January, but I'm
honestly hoping not to be on that particular trip. Instead maybe I'll
see you on BBO or at the Unit Game.
Those of you who qualified for the North American Pairs, see elsewhere
in this issue and make plans for the District Final game on January 16.

Hi, everyone…
I would like to ask for a vote on a salary adjustment for Marie. I do not believe it is fair to pay her $100 while we pay $150 to Mojo. Marie was getting $200 and voluntarily took a cut to $100 when she believed the unit was losing money on the unit game. I think it’s time to restore to at least the same level as a co-director. Can I have a vote on this, please?
Roy
I’ve played bridge more than half my life. The lesser half I wasted.

Here are the overall STaC results for Sunday afternoon. It was a small
day for the STaC, only 36 tables playing Open Pairs games (of which we
provided 16):
https://web2.acbl.org/tournaments/results/2021/12/2112501/2112501_20.HTM
Roy, you'll want to provide this link on the Unit web page.
These results will not appear on The Common Game:
1. This was a Unit 559 game (club 905596) which doesn't (yet) have a
sanction with The Common Game
2. I'm not a designated director with TheCommonGame or ACBL for the San
Marino Bridge Club
3. It doesn't make sense to post it under the San Marino Bridge Club,
and the club number wouldn't match anyway
4. These are not TheCommonGame hands, they're Western Conference STaC hands
5. Exactly the same data, albeit in not as nice a format (IMHO), is
available from ACBL Live for Clubs
For future unit games I'll have to do some administration work to get
the Unit sanctioned with The Common Game for twice-monthly games. Those
game results will /not /appear on the San Marino Bridge Club results page.

Tom, I sent this to the Unit Board for proofreading, but I'm not
anticipating any edits. Not a lot o' news. :)

At least for a while, people were coming back to play in the unit game!
Our November game on the 14th reached capacity at the Bridge Center with
15 tables. Overall winners were Fredy and Lulu Minter, with Paul Nason
and John Villalobos taking second both in the N/S section.
We'll have a single Unit game on Sunday, December 12. We're planning to
make it a little more festive, with a traditional holiday lunch of
pizza. :) Reservations and proof of COVID vaccination are required! Call
Miriam Harrington for reservations at (626) 232-0558.
Online club games continue six days a week in combination with five
other nearby units. Drop in at bridgemojo.com and click "Games" for the
full schedule.
Last week we were delighted to report Lulu Minter's change in rank, this
week Fredy joins in climbing the ladder as a new Ruby Life Master.
Congratulations!
