Pasadena San Gabriel Unit
*Holiday Bridge Party* December 11, 12:30 p.m. lunch, with a big Royal
STaC bridge game to follow!
Everyone from District 23 is invited to come celebrate the season and
play for black, silver, red, and gold masterpoints!
Space is limited! Seats are $35 per player, which includes our fabulous
lunch and a great card game.

The *Pasadena Bridge Club* has been in the works since 2020, and is
finally coming to be. We found a fabulous location on North Fair Oaks
Ave. at Orange Grove with lots of parking (free), great food choices
right there, and a beautiful playing area.
We're working on furnishings, decorating, and scheduling. I'm planning
to offer classes three sessions a week, on a staggered rotation. /Bridge
- Introduction/ will be offered on Wednesday evenings, starting January
11. /Play of the Hand/ will start on Thursday evenings, January 12.
/Improving Your Judgment - Opening the Bidding/ will start on Saturday
mornings, January 14.
There will be games for 0-300 players on Monday evenings and Saturday
afternoons (at least) along with social bridge and supervised play sessions.
The grand opening party will be at noon on Saturday, January 7, with a
game at 1:00 p.m., Open and 299er pairs. The web site is live at

over the next few weeks.
*Unit Game winners* from November: The Nov. 6 game was a STaC game. N/S
winners were *Peter Szecsi* and *Amr Elghamry*, E/W going to *Adam
Barron* and *Sherry Hansen*. Peter and Amr placed 2nd Overall in Flight
A in the STaC, and Adam and Sherry were 1st Overall in Flight B for big
masterpoint wins!
November 20 we had a great turnout with ten tables. N/S winners were
*Joan Mesias* and *Jeanette Deverian*, with E/W going to *Robert Shore*
and *Kevin Lane*.
Congratulations to new Junior Masters *Angelica Clark* and *Barbara
Way*, new Silver Life Master *Mark Gersh*, new Ruby Life Master *Mindy
Golden*, and new Gold Life Master *Zachary Vedro*. Zach, by the way, is
my partner and co-founder of the Pasadena Bridge Club. :)
Finally, I'll mention that the 2023 *Aileen Osofsky ACBL Goodwill Member
of the Year* is yours truly, Morris "Mojo" Jones. I'm surprised and
deeply honored. I know of so many member volunteers who give tirelessly
to support our game that I never imagined I might be considered for such
an award, much less win the designation. I'm touched and proud. Thank
you. :)

Hi, all,
If we are going to continue sending unit-wide emails, we need to renew the funds in our account with the ACBL. The more credits we purchase the bigger the discount, but I think $100 will last us a long time.
Can I please get a vote, and if everyone agrees I will purchase the credits and ask Miriam for reimbursement.

I have sent an invitation to our Holiday party to all the members in district 23. There were more than 2000 members, but I doubt they will all show up. (And I did send the correct date!) I didn’t check, but an email this large is probably about $60, so at some point the board will need to put some more money in the account.

Dunno how accurate the information is, but Mark Hartzell sez that our Holiday party could also be part of another Royal STaC, which starts on December 5.
Can we have a discussion or vote on being included? I vote yes, let’s /e included.

Darn…. I just updated our website and once again we have lost members. I cannot remember the year, perhaps 10 or more, but I recall that we once had almost 800 members in our unit. The latest number is 357. Sigh.

*Important schedule change for the November Unit Games!*
We wanted to take advantage of the fall STaC tournament running Oct. 31
through Nov. 6, so we're moving the Sunday Unit Games to *November 6 and
20 *this month. Especially for these games, be sure to reserve your seat
with Miriam Harrington before the game! Our space is limited. Call
Miriam at (626) 232-0558.
*Save the date!*
Our unit is reviving the traditional Holiday Party and bridge game on
*December 11*. We'll have lunch, and a great bridge game at the Arcadia
Community Center. We're happy to welcome visitors from anywhere in
District 23.
Winners in October ... well how about that, the same pairs won both games:
October 9 AND October 23:

Our next round of beginning bridge classes will be starting after the
first of the year. They'll be on Wednesday evenings, starting January
11, offered through PCC Extension, and taught at Arcadia High School.

Hi, everyone,
I just got this from Kathy Cresto, and I have a concern… every month I seem to have an error with the unit game dates, and it’s a little embarrassing. Before we added a second game each month it was very easy - always the first Sunday of the month, unless something special was happening.
So… whoever is in charge of our schedule, can you please help me out?
Also, can someone confirm Kathy’s request? Should the dates be changed that she is requesting?
