Pasadena San Gabriel Unit
At least for a while, people were coming back to play in the unit game!
Our November game on the 14th reached capacity at the Bridge Center with
15 tables. Overall winners were Fredy and Lulu Minter, with Paul Nason
and John Villalobos taking second both in the N/S section.
We'll have a single Unit game on Sunday, December 12. We're planning to
make it a little more festive, with a traditional holiday lunch of
pizza. :) Reservations and proof of COVID vaccination are required! Call
Miriam Harrington for reservations at (626) 232-0558.
Online club games continue six days a week in combination with five
other nearby units. Drop in at bridgemojo.com and click "Games" for the
full schedule.
Last week we were delighted to report Lulu Minter's change in rank, this
week Fredy joins in climbing the ladder as a new Ruby Life Master.
Congratulations!

Hi, everyone,
I have a proposal which should be very inexpensive.
Every month Marie and I get a membership report from the ACBL. Part of that information is the names of new players who have joined our unit and also the names of players who have transferred into our unit. You can imagine how difficult it might be for these players to find a new partner. I propose that we appoint someone as Ambassador to contact them and offer to play with them as a means to help them find a regular partner. The cost? How about we pay the Ambassador’s card fees? Or, we might ask Diane if she would be willing to waive the cost. Would it be too much to offer a free play one time for the new player?
I have a person in mind, too. Gloria Rommel has been a member of our unit for over 25 years, but shortly after she became a Life Master she quit playing. She never lost her interest, though, and has recently returned to the game as a fill-in at the Bridge Center. I asked if she would be willing to take this position and she was enthusiastic about it. Are we? Aye or Nay?
I vote aye.

I’ve played bridge more than half my life. The lesser half I wasted.
Great!
I’m glad to see that everyone thinks it’s a good idea!
I will let Gloria know that the position is approved, and will send her telephone numbers of new players and transfers each month. I think she should give us a report occasionally, too.
Thank you!
Roy

unit559webmaster(a)gmail.com.
Rank changes this month: Sectional Master: Julie Hanson; Regional
Master: Michael Perera; NABC Master: Sarah Deschenes.
One special rank change goes to Lulu Minter, our own newly-minted (so to
speak) Platinum Life Master. That's a big hill to climb! Congratulations
Lulu!
The online bridge clubs are going strong. We're enjoying our game pool
with Downey, Pomona, Glendale, and Santa Clarita units. The full
schedule of games is available at https://bridgemojo.com/unit556.
I'm starting new online bridge classes on Defense, November 1, and
Improving Your Judgment - Doubles, November 2. Both are probably a
little too soon for the bridge news, but you're welcome to join in for
the second class.
I've also been busy following my calling to teach newcomers and create
new players. My students are adults from the ACBL Intro to Bridge
course, and kids from the BridgeWhiz program. The players come from all
over North America, and my hope is that I can spark an interest that
flows into bridge at all levels someday.

I concur.
I did a test search on Google using "Pasadena Bridge Club" and the top result is in St. Petersburg, FL, but a few listings down is ACBL Unit 559, the Arcadia Bridge Center, below Claudia's weekly game at the Pasadena Senior Center. (I wonder if they're meeting?)
In any case, I see no need to keep the extra domain name.

Hi, Over 20 years ago I built our website and registered it as ACBLunit559.com. I also registered it as ACBLunit559.org, so players could use either address, and also so nobody else could hi-jack the domain name of ACBLunit559. The cost to me each year is $15.00 each. Consider it a donation to the unit, and a thank you for letting me play free in unit games. (I am also the owner of the www.ArcadiaBridgeCenter.com, .org and .club.) However, after all this time, I no longer consider it important to keep the .org version and will abandoned it unless the board decides that it should be kept. That means anyone who wants that domain name could register it, but why would they? Your thoughts? Roy I’ve played bridge more than half my life. The lesser half I wasted. _______________________________________________ Unit559board mailing list -- unit559board(a)bridgemojo.com To unsubscribe send an email to unit559board-leave(a)bridgemojo.com
