Unit 559 Board
by Lisa Walker 17 Sep '23

Mike, I received a phone call tonight from Michael Rodriques about the Treasurer position. I am disturbed that you did not come directly to me today, as I was at the Arcadia club all afternoon. When I presented Miriam’s wish to step down from the Board and the Treasurer position, I also told them you would be willing to do that job. The Board decided that if a current Board member would be willing to do it, it would be more expeditious to have them do it. So Michael graciously offered to do it. You are not on the Board and Treasurer is a Board position. You are certainly welcome to run for the Board next March when we elect new members and new officers. Until then Michael R. will be doing the job and if you have any issues with this, you can take them up with me. The Board voted on this unanimously and they are the governing body of Unit 559, and. as such, have the authority to make this call. Lisa Walker

Party

Although I never want to bring food on any sort of regular basis, I would like to bring a couple of cakes to the party. Probably not enough by myself, but if there is someone else willing to also bring a dessert, plus a large cake bought by the unit, it should be enough. Roy I’ve played bridge more than half my life. The lesser half I wasted.

Christmas Party
by Lisa Walker 15 Sep '23

Dear Board, I went to Mariam’s today to get the information on last year’s xmas party. It is as follows— Arcadia Community Center Cost $541.00 Sanction Fees 120.25 Director 200.00 Centerpieces 48.55 Supplies 277.15 Food 1,278.44 TOTAL 2,465.39 Our income from the party last year charging $35/person was $2625.00 so our net income last year was $159.61. This year we are contemplating using the Taco Guy, estimate for 100 people is $1578. This does not include dessert and drinks. The reason for the food increase I believe is that we were pricing box lunches which are more expensive than getting sandwich trays and salad bowls. I believe my Green Street bill last year was around $900 and the rest was dessert and drinks. So it is significantly more expensive to use either box launches or the Taco Guy. Both are inviting because they remove the work from us. So here are my questions, and if you could take the time to answer them, it would be helpful— 1. MoJo, has there been an increase in the director fee for this year? 2. Arcadia Center is the same price and I assume that sanctions will be around the same. Last year I think we had 18 tables, which is 72 people. We could lower the number of people for the Taco Guy to 75 which will cut that cost. 3. I believe Jan still has the tablecloths from last year, but I will have to check with her so that cuts out that cost. 4. Do you think it’s realistic to expect around 18 tables this year? If we charge $30/person and have 18 tables, here is the breakdown Arcadia 541. Director 200 supplies 250 Food ` 1200 Sanction 130 Des/Dri 200 TOTAL 2521.00 72@$30 2160.00 We would be at a negative $361.00 but I think we have the funds and our unit members would be grateful and we might even get more people. Can you give me your opinions on whether we should go ahead with this or do the same thing we did last year? Lisa

Fwd: Reservation Form - The Taco Guy Catering

HI Board, This is the estimate for the Taco Guy Catering for the Christmas Party. Angela and I think it looks good. Everything listed is included in the price. We would have to get drinks and dessert, maybe a cake from Costco? This included 4-5 tacos per person which seems like plenty of food per person. Please let me know your comments as soon as possible so I can book it. I leave for spain for three weeks on Monday so would like to get it confirmed by then.
