Unit Board Policies
by Katherine Cresto 14 Nov '23

14 Nov '23

Hi, All I am trying to help Roy with corrections on the website I have started preparing hard copies of areas that need attention and giving him a hard copy. I found this page on polices for the unit game. Does this need review? I know this seems hit or miss; but, maybe, there are other areas that need updating. Kathy

Holiday Party
by Lisa Walker 07 Nov '23

07 Nov '23

Good morning all, Just want to clarify that what our jobs are for the Holiday Party: Lisa — Ordered food from Taco Guy and will be there to receive and set it up with them. Case of sparking apple cider Michael — will bring tablecloths and napkins and table decorations that he has on hand Richard — Dessert—sheet cakes to feed the group. Probably 2 Sherry — Coffee and tea. Will purchase and set up decanters for coffee and hot water. Also need sugar and creamer Kathy — Publicity (nice job) MoJo — Directing and myriad other things. Angela — I don’t have you down for anything. I assume you will be there by 11 to help with set up. Miriam — Taking reservations and money issues Linda — Will you be there to help set up as well? We also need bottled water, at least 2 cases of the small bottles. I can ask Elliot unless someone on this list wants to take care of this. Please confirm that we are all on board with the above so it flows well. Lisa

DRAFT unit column for bridge news
by Morris Jones 31 Oct '23

31 Oct '23

Please review for corrections and omissions! What did I leave out? ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Pasadena San Gabriel Unit Save the date! The unit *holiday party* will be held on *Sunday, December 10*, at the beautiful Arcadia Community Center. Lunch and dessert will be served. This year we're expecting delicious catering of tacos and treats, and we're lowering the cost to $30 per player. At this fee, the unit expects to spend a bit more than we'll take in, and that will be our holiday gift to the members. Of course there will be a bridge game, and it will be a Sectional Tournament at Clubs game! We'll be sending a flier for the holiday party with more information sometime in the next few weeks by email, and look for fliers posted at the Arcadia Bridge Center and the Pasadena Bridge Club. Advance ticket purchase and reservations are required, so we can plan how much food and beverage to provide. Miriam Harrington will be taking reservations, or talk to any board member. Our next unit games will be held on *November 5* at the Pasadena Bridge Club and *November 19* at the Arcadia Bridge Center. Game time is 12:30. Reservations are required! Contact Miriam Harrington at (626) 232-0558 or miratpf(a)aol.com to reserve your seat. Winners from last month's unit games: October 8: * N/S: Amr Elghamry, Dominique Moore * E/W: Mark Peters, Sin Orensztein October 22: * N/S Paul Nason, Diana Borgatti * E/W Clint Lew, Stephen Andersen Congratulations to new Junior Masters *Kenneth Farhang* and *Meera Kumar*, and new Club Master *Guerry Collins*! Courses coming up at the Pasadena Bridge Club include *Two over one game force* on Wednesday evenings starting November 8, and *Popular Conventions* on Thursday evenings starting November 30. For full details, or to register, visit https://pasadenabridgeclub.com. And don't forget, in December we're offering teacher accreditation for Audrey Grant's /Better Bridge/ program. This program is well worth your time, and /bridge needs teachers/ to share this delightful game with the world. In conjunction with the Better Bridge TAP program, the club will be hosting a special one-day bridge seminar for newer players on Friday morning, December 22. More details in next month's update! -- build message Morris "Mojo" Jones mojo(a)PasadenaBridgeClub.com https://PasadenaBridgeClub.com <https://pasadenabridgeclub.com> Pasadena Bridge Club <https://pasadenabridgeclub.com>

New Roster
by Roy Wilson 30 Oct '23

30 Oct '23

Hello, friends, As you know, Kathy, Marie and Mary Downey have been working on a new roster for us, but unfortunately Mary will not be available for some time, and neither Marie nor Kathy know how to format the roster for submission to a printer. I have done it numerous times, but to tell the truth I really don’t want to do it again! I propose that I create a printable version of the membership roster on our website. This is updated monthly by the ACBL. That way, any member who wants or needs it can always print an up-to-date copy. There are a number of benefits for this idea…. First is the savings in printer cost, which is several thousand dollars every two years, and since the roster is printed in two year intervals, they soon becomes obsolete. Finally, making a new one every two years is a lot of work! Let’s make this change and never publish another roster. I would like one request, though, if you accept this idea…. long ago the board voted to allow me to play for free in the unit games, which I greatly appreciate! Might I have that privilege be granted to my partner-of-the-day also? I’ve played bridge more than half my life. The lesser half I wasted.
