Attached is the financial report for our meeting tonight.
Also, to add to the agenda, Elliot Mazur has asked if he brings food to a unit game, would he be reimbursed? We already pay both Diane and MoJo $40 per game for food, but he wanted more. I told him it was a board decision so we can discuss this tonight as well.
See you at 7. MoJo will send link.
Lisa
Good afternoon, Board
Attached please find the Agenda for Monday’s meeting, minutes from the last meeting, By Laws Revision and proposed Over/Under Procedures.
Miriam, if you have the financials, please send them out before if you can! Or you can hand them to me on Sunday and I will send them out.
Thanks all,
Lisa
Good morning, Board,
I will be sending out an agenda on Friday for our meeting on Monday at 7 PM. I anticipate it will be short but want to confirm procedures for Over/Under game, have a look at the revised By-l;aws and name the dates for Unit games in August, September and October.
Linda and Miriam, if I could get the financials and minutes by Friday, that would be great to send out with the agenda packet.
Lisa
Please review for corrections and especially omissions. What did I
forget? :)

May is going to be a great month for bridge in and around Pasadena!
The *Royal STaC* will be on from May 1 through May 7. All awards will be
paid in 25% black, 25% silver, 25% red, and 25% gold master points.
At the Pasadena Bridge Club, we'll be offering Royal STaC games on
Wednesday through Saturday.
* Wednesday 11:00 AM Open Pairs
* Thursday 12:00 PM 0-750 Pairs
* Friday 11:00 AM 0-750 Pairs *(Special additional game!)*
* Saturday 1:00 PM 0-750 Pairs
Along with these games, the Pasadena Unit Game will be held on *Sunday
May 7* at the Pasadena Bridge Club, and it will be a Royal STaC game.
Game time is *12:30 PM*, and reservations are required with Miriam
Harrington, (626) 232-0558, or miratpf(a)aol.com
New bridge class starting soon at the Pasadena Bridge Club: *Improving
Your Judgment - Opening the Bidding*, on Thursday evenings for six
Thursdays, 7:00-9:00 PM, starting May 4.
Also a new round of *Bridge Basics 1 - Introduction* will start on May
20, Saturday mornings, 9:30-11:30 AM. Registration is through Pasadena
City College (PCC) Extension, or let me know at the bridge club.
At the April 9 Unit Game, I had a student visiting the game to kibitz. I
always welcome students to kibitz, and warn them to try to arrive about
an hour /after /the game starts -- otherwise I may draft them to play in
the game!
My student arrived before game time for this game, and sure enough, with
a half table, I invited her to play with me to fill the half table. She
was a good sport!
We found ourselves in several 3NT contracts that should probably have
been in a suit, and some pass-outs that possibly should have been bid.
Perhaps we were the beneficiaries of a few mistakes by the opposing
pairs as well. Nevertheless, the stars aligned to give us first place
overall in the game. Amy said she was floating home during the drive
back to Santa Monica. :)
Winners in the Unit Games:
April 9:
N/S: *Morris Jones*, *Amy Muscoplat*
E/W: *Adam Barron*, *Stephen Licker*
April 23:
N/S: *Carolyn Cohen*, *Stephen Licker*
E/W: *Robert Shore*, *Mike Savage*
Please reserve your seat for our unit games! Contact Miriam at (626)
232-0558 or miratpf(a)aol.com. Game time is 12:30 PM. For May the Unit
Games will be held as follows:
* May 7, Pasadena Bridge Club (Royal STaC)
* May 21, Arcadia Bridge Center
Congratulations to the following players moving up in the ACBL ranks!
New Club Master *Dana Dewberry*, new Regional Master *Tracee Dezzutti*,
new NABC Master *Prasad Upasani*, new Life Master and Bronze Life Master
Sadika Elewy, and new Bronze Life Master *Robert Verhoef*.
There is a special event this month on Sunday May 14, a full-day bridge
seminar by player, teacher, and author Robert Todd. See the ad elsewhere
in the bridge news for more information.
I hope to see you soon at the bridge table!

Yes, the resources are now finally there. It's getting the horse to drink the water.

We have to draw a line somewhere and Rivhard will use his judgment when assigning partnerships. This is an experiment. It won’t be perfect but will give us some experience in continuing to host these types of games.
And the lack of training can now be addressed very easily with Mojo’s array of classes he is offering in his club. He is an excellent teacher and is teaching a variety of classes for beginners and experienced players alike. I don’t know what else we could do to encourage training. Roy just gave a workshop on Precision for those who were interested for free. So there are resources out there for players.

How are we defining 'Novice'?
How do you define an 'Over'?
Non Life Masters could have have over 800 points, i.e., Richard Gero.

I agree with Sherry. The novice players will be scared off with a 750 ceiling. There are too many players under that bar that have many years of experience and are not life masters because of shortage of colored masterpoints.

I do agree that the “Under” players should have a maximum of 449 points, as these are the true novice players. My experience with this event in other units was that there was an imbalance with more novice players signing up.
Another question: do experienced players sign up for this event with a requirement of so many points or are they asked by board members to participate.

Attached is a drastic update of the Over/Under game I presented at our last Unit Board meeting. Upon further consideration, I decided that the purpose of this event is to have experienced players teach novice players. That being the case, I revised the process to identify true novice players (Unders) who are interested in pairing up with an experienced player so they could learn bridge principles. This means that some of the usual unit game players will be unable to participate in this event because they have achieved some level of expertise and are no longer "novices".
Then, based on the number of Unders who sign up for the game, we, the Board, will identify experienced players (Overs) to pair up with the Unders. This unfortunately excludes unit players who are not Unders or Overs, but it addresses the purpose of the game to be an educational moment for beginning bridge players.
Please let me know what you think. We probably need to start signups for the Under list by June 1st (latest) so that we can ensure that there are enough participants to make this event a success.
Thanks
Richard
