A suggestion to the unit board
Hi, friends, I don’t know how many players registered for our Over Under game, but after the game I would like to recognize the players on the unit website, and congratulate everyone for playing. I also have a suggestion for future games. Several players have asked me if they could play in the game without being part of the Over/Under game, and I had to tell them no, but it made wonder, "Why not?" I am suggesting that next year we not exclude anyone from the game, but that we score the game with two flights. The first flight would be an open one where players’ scores are compared with all the players in the game. The second flight would be for our Over-Under players and their scores would only be compared to others in the same flight. This would be a single game, but, with separate scores and rankings. We would have two first place winners, etc. I think if the board adopts this idea, it could be used in several games a year instead of just an annual event. And…. If it’s successful and popular, it could be done every month. Roy Wilson I’ve played bridge more than half my life. The lesser half I wasted.

Roy, what you're suggesting is essentially two separate games. There is no way to fairly mix in non-Over/Under players into the same section as the Over-Unders. It doesn't matter if they're "scored" separately or not. If some Over/Unders have to compete against non Over-Unders, and others don't, it's not providing a level playing field. If there are enough players for a three-table separate game, I'm willing to direct it. We'll have to come up with room to put the second section. That's a little hard to imagine at Diane's club without the second room. We currently have ten tables. The Over players are only by invitation, and players have to earn that invitation by having a reputation for being pleasant at the table and kind and gracious to their partners and opponents. We presently have some players who only marginally meet those requirements. Remember that "flights" are separate sections, and "strats" are within the same section. You used the word "flights" when I think you meant "strats." This is a hard "no" from me.
