Hi, friends,
I asked Fredy Minter if he had any interest in taking the Arcadia Bridge Center, and yes, he does, but has a number of questions which I cannot answer. I have a question of you, the board members: Are you interested in helping him become the new owner? Could I ask that this topic become an agenda item?
Roy
I’ve played bridge more than half my life. The lesser half I wasted.
A bridge friend from the Long Beach club asked me a question concerning the closure of the Arcadia Bridge Center, and after a short discussion I decided to share it with the board.
Should the board consider asking Diane if she would donate her supplies to them and
the board would hire a director/manager to keep the club open?
Friends, I have no opinion on this, but it was an interesting question so I wanted to share it and let you consider it. I don’t think this is a unique idea, as I believe the Laguna Woods club is run this way, and there are probably others.

Mojo,
Thank you for this information.

Subject: [Unit559board] How to use the board email list
For conversations related to the unit 559 board, we have an email list -- what was known in the old days as a "listserv".
To send an email to everyone on the board, address it to <unit559board(a)bridgemojo.com><mailto:unit559board@bridgemojo.com>. If that address is in your To: Cc: or Bcc: fields, everyone on the board will receive a copy.
(That's not guaranteed -- I have no control over what individual spam filters might do to incoming email.)
If you email the list from a different email address, it might be "held for moderation." Only email from the known member addresses will be forwarded automatically.
So be careful! If you reply to a list email, it will most likely be copied to everyone else on the list. If you want to have a private email conversation, be sure to address the email privately.
Best regards,
Mojo

The ACBL has a lot of good information about the jobs and
responsibilities of unit boards.
On their site, in the "About ACBL" section, there's a subsection "Units
and Districts," and if you scroll the Units part, there are links that
include a Handbook for Units. If you'll be sending emails on behalf of
the unit (official business), we use "Marketing Solutions by Pianola"
for that.
https://acbl.org/administration/#units
The other relevant document is the ACBL Codification, which is a 400
page document, bur 8 pages are dedicated to Units (starting on page 71):
https://web2.acbl.org/codification/Codification.pdf
The Codification is also a treasure trove of everything you ever wanted
to know about ACBL operations and administration.
I know there are contacts at HQ who will support unit boards with
requests, but I'll have to find out who that is.
Cheers,
Mojo

On Sunday March 3 we held our annual unit membership meeting before the
Unit Game at the Pasadena Bridge Club.
Outgoing unit board members are Richard Halverstadt and Linda Stuart.
Thanks so much for your help and contributions!
Incoming unit board members are Liza Billington, Don Garner, Patricia
Luehrs, Gloria Rommel, and Doug Senour. When you see them at the table,
be sure to thank them for their volunteer service!
For the Unit Game and meeting on March 3, the unit had a surprise gift
for the players: no card fee for the game! Sixty players came to fill 15
tables at the Pasadena Bridge Club, enjoy pizza, salad, beverages, and
cake, all provided by the unit and served by the unit board.

Dear Board,
I am attaching the Financial Report submitted by Treasurer Miriam Harrington for your review. This is on the agenda to be approved tonight.
In addition, two other items I am adding to the agenda—
1. Committee Chair for the Over/Under game (if this board decides to have one). We also need to find a date.
2 Naming for the donation to our district for the Long Beach Regional. We can name one game. Mike Marcucci said it is usually a deceased prominent member of our unit from the past year, however we have 10 members we have lost in the past year. I would like your thoughts on this but we can certainly just go with Pasadena-San Gabriel Unit 559.
See you tonight.

Dear Board and Board-to-Be,
Our first Board meeting as a new Board will be this Monday, March 4 at 7PM via Zoom. Hopefully MoJo can set up the Zoom and send out the link that day. At that meeting, we will take care of the following business:
1. Appointment of Officers
2. Appointment of Committee Chairs
3. Committee Members
I will be sending out an agenda on Friday. IN the meantime, I have attached the By Laws and the Standing Rules to familiarize you with the requirements of each position. We will have nominations from the floor for the officers and committee chairs and then the full board will vote on each one. If you have any questions ahead of time, I will try and answer them.
I would request during the meeting, since there will be 12 of us, that you mute yourself unless you are speaking to the group or we are taking a vote.
Current Board, I will be resending you the minutes from the last meeting along with hopefully a financial report (Miriam??). You may notice that I have not discussed the Amended ByLaw s. I have decided to pull these off the table for now because it is in conflict with our current election procedures and i want the new Board to correct that problem.
