ACBL UNIT 559 BOARD MEETING MINUTES
March 2, 2026

The meeting was called to order at 6:30 pm by President Lisa Walker. Also present were Gloria Rommel, Jon Fuhrman, Kim Ebner, Laurie Silton, Melanie Moran, Michael Marcucci, Miriam Angel, Pat Luehrs, Sherna Foucher, Sherry Hansen, and Toban Toban.
1. A motion was made by Jon Fuhrman and seconded by Gloria Rommel to approve the minutes from the 1/12/26 meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
1. A financial statement was presented by interim Treasurer Mike Marcucci.

The Board welcomed new members Michael Marcucci, Melanie Moran, Miriam Angel, and Sherna Foucher. Returning Board members are Gloria Rommel, Jon Fuhrman, Kim Ebner, Laurie Silton, Lisa Walker, Pat Luehrs, Sherry Hansen, and Toban Toban. Gratitude was expressed for the work of departing Board members Kathy Cresto, Liza Billington, Miriam Harrington, and Michael Rodriguez.
1. Board officer and other positions were assigned and approved. Lisa Walker will return as President. Gloria Rommel will be Vice President. Miriam Angel and Melanie Moran will share Secretary duties. Pat Leuhrs and Gloria Rommel will retain their previous positions as Publicity and Friendship Chair, respectively. Sherna Foucher is the new Membership Chair. The Unit Reporter will be Mojo since he regularly writes a newsletter that is posted on the Pasadena Bridge Club website and emailed to interested members. Lisa Walker will continue as Unit Tournament Director. Lisa Walker and John Jones will be District Representatives.
1. Sherna Foucher will contact Kathy Cresto for Membership Chair materials and guidance.
1. Members discussed who would create flyers for Unit Games, Sectionals, and Holiday Parties, a task previously done by departing member Kathy Cresto. Pat Luehrs made a motion to ask Kathy to continue creating flyers, with an offer of free Unit Games for a year as compensation. Sherry Hansen seconded the motion. The motion passed, 11 in favor, 1 opposed.
1. Some members stated that they have not been receiving Pat Luehrs’ emails regarding Unit Games. Pat will investigate.
1. Election Party feedback was that the food was great but there was a bit too much of it.
1. This year’s Sectional will be August 22nd and 23rd at the Pasadena Bridge Club. A sanction and reservation of the second room have been approved. Members are asked to help set up beforehand and clean up afterward. Specific plans will be discussed at an upcoming Board meeting.
1. Lisa will talk to Mojo about the possibility of including a 499er (non-Life Master) section to Unit Games.
1. The Holiday Party will be Sunday, December 6, 2026 at the Pasadena Bridge Club.
1. Unit Games are typically scheduled for the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month. The second March game will be March 29th instead of the 15th, due to a scheduling conflict with the Robert Todd seminar.
1. The next Board meeting is in-person, Sunday, May 3rd after the Unit Game.

Pasadena San Gabriel Unit Games!

We have two great Unit Games coming up in March 2026, on the first Sunday 3/1/2026, which is also, the Election Party, and the fifth Sunday 3/29/2026. There will be a class at the Pasadena Bridge Club on 3/15/26. Check it out on the website!
There will be no fee for the 3/1/26 Unit Game for all members of Unit 559. Lunch will be provided from the wonderful Vallarta Grocers. Bring your appetite! Space is limited that day, so sign up soon!
Heads up-there will be only one Unit Game in April on 4/19/2026.
We typically have 10-12 tables for each game, and the competition is certainly high quality! Space is limited, and reservations are required.
Each game starts at 12:30 PM, with pizza served at12:00. We play 24 boards. Snacks and coffee are provided at each game, and we love when players bring other items to share at the food table! There are also many great lunch offerings available in the same center as the Pasadena Bridge Club.

This is a reminder of our Election Party on March 1st at the Unit Game. Zach will be directing that game. I believe we should charge non-unit members a card fee that day, as it is a unit event.

This is a very cleverly constructed phishing email! It has the correct
From: address, and it's digitally signed somehow.
I spent some time looking through the headers, and the origin machine is
a random VM somewhere in the cloud. There's no sign that it ever went
through gmail.
They must have gotten a Gmail private key for signing the header using
"DKIM".
In any case, it's obviously fraud, and Lisa wasn't hacked or anything.
It's just an exceedingly clever counterfeit.
If anyone else gets this, just ignore it. There's nothing else to be done.

You can all see the Mini McKinney winners on the ACBL website, as well as the Ace of Clubs and the Virtual Ace of Clubs winners. The ACBL has sent emails to all the winners whose emails they have. I can print certificates for the winners but I have found that people don’t really want them. Your thoughts. It is a chore because I have to go to Office Depot and enter each email indifidually, probably about an hour or two worth of time. If you think we have to have this, let me know. You can come with me and help. Or take on this job.
