I concur.

Dear Board,
We have an opportunity to engage a local sectional director rather than a national director for our sectional. I received a notice from the ACBL a few days ago notifying our unit that local sectional directors can be used. There are a few restrictions, the most important one being that we cannot have more than 25 tables. We qualify for all the other restrictions. The other is that we will be giving out slightly less MP to thewinners because we are not using a national director.
The benefit is that the cost is substantially less. A national director will be around $2500 according to MoJo and a local director will be around $600. MoJo has already contact Paula Olivares and she has agreed to be the local director for us if we would like to take this avenue.
This is a Board decision and since we do not have a meeting until July 8, I need your consent to move forward in this way. MoJo does not believe the table restriction will be an issue since we are space challenged anyway, and the cost savings are significant.
Please reply all and email me your vote on this question ASAP.
Many thanks for your work for the Board.
Lisa

Oops, I got the rank changes wrong. These were last month's. Here's a
correction

Pasadena San Gabriel Unit
Things have been hopping at the Pasadena Bridge Club. The club is now
open six days a week plus every other Sunday.
The club is planning to close on July 2, 3, and 4, that's Tuesday,
Wednesday, Thursday, during the Long Beach Regional. We'll have our
regularly scheduled games on the other days.
Unit Games are held every other Sunday, though in July, the game on the
7th will not be held so players can join the final day of events at the
regional. Our July game will be on July 21 at 12:30. Please contact
Miriam Harrington, (626) 232-0558 or miratpf(a)aol.com, or Mojo or Zachary
at the bridge club to reserve your seat. (If you're already a unit game
player, you can book your seat directly on RSVP Bridge as well.) With
turnout being around 14 tables now, reservations become very important!
The Pasadena Sectional is returning this year with four great pairs
games on Saturday and Sunday, July 27 and 28. Space is very limited, and
reservations are required!
To reserve your seats for the sectional using RSVPBridge, you and your
partner can join the tournament using this URL:
https://www.rsvpbridge.com/join/PasadenaSectional2024 then sign up for
specific events. Note that this is significantly easier when both
partners have joined the group before signing up.

Hi all!
Sherry and I have been trying to get vendors to donate refreshments for our Sectional but they require a written request on official letterhead that states our nonprofit status, with ID number, and the dates and times needed. Does anyone have official letterhead or is able to create one? I don’t have a computer or working printer.

The QR code for the sectional links to RSVPBridge, the page that lets
you join the sectional and pick your groups and then games.
I've attached it here as a GIF file. You should be able to insert it
into the flier as an image wherever you like.
I'd very much appreciate having some people test the QR code and other
links in the flier.

Hi Mojo (and all),
The first step might be to publicize to other local Units and our members that these items are available at not cost. Then:
As for tables, might Goodwill, Salvation Army or a similar non-profit organization like them as a donation to be restored and resold (or would they not believe this would be a worthwhile project?)
As for the rest of the items, it sounds like an empty dumpster is needed.

Subject: [Unit559board] old tables and boards
I'm having to make room in my garage, so I've moved the old unit tables and metal boards into a storage locker (where I'm keeping a lot of astronomy gear temporarily as well).
I've attached a picture of the stacks of tables.
These can't stay here, of course, because I'll be emptying the space in the next couple of months.
So the question becomes: Should we keep them or dump them?
The surfaces of the tables are beat up. If there were covers for them, they'd be sort of usable for a decently sized sectional. That's a big "if." The old table covers that Mike Marcucci had have been disposed of. You don't want the table covers I'm using at the bridge club. They cost more than the tables.
So let's talk about hypothetically replacing them for that hypothetical big sectional at the San Marino Women's Club in 2025. Decent new folding bridge tables cost about $30 each. Buying 40 of them would come to about $1200.
Then they would need a place to be stored. If we put out a call, it's possible someone else would offer garage space.
If we dumped these tables, we'd have to decide between buying and renting tables next year. (It might be possible to rent tables from the district. I'd have to ask Kevin Lane.)
As for the board sets, I don't believe they're useful at all. They're beat up, and the cards in them are trash. I know Ed Lechner wants some. I wouldn't do anything but give them away. If we have enough machine-compatible board sets for pair games at a sectional, we also have enough for a team game.
It really pains me to turn these into trash, but sadly I think that's what they are. Someone talk me out of it?
Comments please?
