Hello ..
I received this from Jeff Goldsmith this morning, so we should discuss getting custody of our trophy again.
Roy
I’ve played bridge more than half my life. The lesser half I wasted.

For August our unit opted to hold two unit games rather than just one,
and they've proven to be quite popular!
For the game on August 8, we had 12 tables. First overall was
partnership of Jack Chang with Zheng Zhang (Jack repeating after winning
with Sophia Chang last month).
Our August 22 game was a STaC game, with 11 tables. N/S and E/W top
pairs tied with 57.41% games each, and tied for 1/2 overall! Fredy and
Lulu Minter took first E/W, and Karen Arase and Gitta Earll took first N/S
We'll continue with two pleasant Sunday afternoon unit games in
September, on the 12th and 26th. Note that advance reservations and
proof of COVID vaccination are required for all unit games. For
reservations, contact Miram Harrington at (626) 232-0558 or
miratpf(a)aol.com. Games are held at the Bridge Center in Arcadia at 12:30
p.m.
We're continuing to hold online games thanks to Paula Olivares and Unit
556 (Santa Clarita). We truly have a "North LA County" Virtual Bridge
Club now, including the Santa Clarita, Glendale, Pasadena, Pomona, and
Downey units. If you're not on the email list for Unit 556+PPD games,
drop a note to virtualclub(a)bridgemojo.com.
I'm getting geared up to offer a full schedule of bridge classes this
fall, both in-person and online.
In-person classes will be held through Pasadena City College's Extension
program, and taught at Arcadia High School on Wednesday evenings.
/Bridge - Introduction/ will start on Sept. 15, and /Bridge - Popular
Conventions/ will start on October 20.
Online I'll be offering Audrey Grant's /2 Over 1 Game Force/ class on
Sunday afternoons, a /Bridge Basics Refresher/ on Monday evenings, and
/Competitive Bidding/ on Tuesday evenings. Each class lasts about six
weeks. All the information can be found at *bridgemojo.com*.
For November I'll plan to offer some more classes for advancing players,
and perhaps a series of online newcomer duplicate games on Tuesday
evenings. Drop me a note if you'd like to receive my email newsletters!
Finally a couple of personal notes: I've been elected to the board of
the American Bridge Teachers Association as recording secretary.
I challenged myself to try for the ABTA's prestigious Master Teacher
designation. The requirements and interview process are daunting! I had
to teach a portion of a class to the panel, answer a collection of
difficult bridge problems, and present research on a problem hand that
was provided before the interview. In short, I am now an *ABTA Master
Teacher*, and it's one of my proudest accomplishments.

Here's a draft of a column for the Bridge News for September.
I mentioned before I don't have the dates for the September unit games.
I put in some guesses for the dates, so please check for me.
Corrections requested!
Best regards,

I need you all to review my facts here. Do I have the Unit Game dates
correct? Do I have Miriam's phone number correct? I wrote this almost
entirely from a vague memory. :)

Not a lot of news in the Pasadena unit. The Bridge Center in Arcadia
continues a schedule of bridge five days a week. Drop in to
http://www.arcadiabridgecenter.com for the schedule, and give Diane a
call at (626) 445-3797.
Still nothing to report on the planned renovation for the San Marino
club. I know we're all eagerly awaiting any news of the city's plans for
the club and building.
We had a second Unit Game on July 11 at the Bridge Center, which doubled
as an NAP qualifier game. Overall winners were Jack Chang and Sophia
Chang (winning from Flight B), second overall Patrick Cardullo and
Carolyn Cohen. Flight C overall winners were Michael Rodrigues and Ron Lu.
August has two Sunday Unit Games on the calendar: August 8 and August
22, and the unit board is hoping to continue with two Unit games monthly
for a little while, inviting players to come back into the bridge club.
For these games in particular, reservations will be required, as well as
proof of a COVID vaccination. For reservations, contact Miriam
Harrington at (626) 447-6718.
Special congratulations to new Sapphire Life Master Ernie Wong! :)
I will be offering my first new-era face-to-face beginning bridge
classes this September through Pasadena City College Extension program
on Wednesday evenings. I'll have more information and dates on
https://bridgemojo.com as registration becomes available.
Best regards,
Mojo

I wanted to meet this coming Thursday, July 29th at 1:00 to discuss the
contract with the Arcadia Senior Center and also some concerns about the
vaccine requirement.
Hi Jan,
I looked at the contract. How many tables would that room accomodate? I see they have a kitchen we could use as well. It will probably be easier to cater something than try and prepare a meal there. Are we thinking about serving liquor, and then needing a liquor license?
It says that they rent to non-profits; are we considered a non-profit organization? Are you sure that they will rent to us? It doesn’t look like they allow private parties or weddings, etc. in that space.
Just wondering about the above.

We would not be able to hold 2 games, but it would provide a place for a nice party. Please look it over, read the FINE PRINT and let me know what you think. Marianne got back to me again and is still checking San Gabriel Country Club.
