UPCOMING BOARD MEETING
by janet wickersham 21 Jan '23

21 Jan '23

GOOD MORNING, I KNOW THIS IS SHORT NOTICE. WOULD IT BE POSSIBLE TO HAVE A BOARD MEETING JANUARY 26TH AT 1:00? (SORRY, I DIDN’T REALIZE I WAS ON ALL CAPS). If so, I would like to ask Mojo to set it up, and I would like to do it before I move to be sure I’m connected. The top item is the Board Election. Lisa has informed me she will also be dropping off in March. Let me know.

NEW CIRCUMSTANCES
by janet wickersham 19 Jan '23

19 Jan '23

Dear Friends, Lots has been happening in my life. Most important is that I am moving February 1, from my home to independent living in Pasadena. I see my ability to finish out my responsibilities as Unit President, a bit limited. Since we will be changing in March, the time is short. This is what I envision as needing As I see it, we should try to recruit a few more board members. I was planning on asking Elliott, Angela Peters, and Patricia. I had another thought. Perhaps some new people would be willing to just commit to bringing food on designated Unit game days. I you go down to 6 board members, and Mojo is one of the six, that repeat food stuff will hit too frequently. Just ideas to think about. Let me know you thoughts, and next week or the week after, I think a board meeting could be arranged. If you have other items to discuss, please let me know.

Bridge News Column
by Morris Jones 02 Jan '23

02 Jan '23

I'm late, so I don't know if I'll be able to get the column into the Bridge News or not. Tom, I'll have an edit of the North American Pairs article for you. Only change: COVID vaccinations will be required and checked if not already checked. Tom, I'd also like to run the same quarter-page ad for the Pasadena Bridge Club please. Board please check for corrections and omissions ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Pasadena San Gabriel Unit 559 It's been a busy month for me! Thanks so much to everyone who came out for the work party on December 17 at the Pasadena Bridge Club. Helping put together chairs and end tables for the club were Barbara Leider, Yvonne Schimmel, Liza Billington, Cory Brendel, Lisa Walker, Cardon Walker, Susan Kane, and Jon Fuhrman. January 7 will be our opening day gala. On that Saturday (as in all following) we'll have a game at 1:00 p.m. with Open Pairs plus a novice/intermediate section for 0-300 players. Make a reservation for this game or any game at this link: https://pasadenabridgeclub.com/contact/game_reservation It was so great seeing everyone come out for the Holiday Party on December 11. We had 18-1/2 tables, contributing to 131-1/2 tables in the Great Western Royal STaC game. Big winners with first in Flight B and fifth in Flight A overall were *Jack Chang* and *Zheng Zhang*. Six other pairs managed to place in the event overalls. Upcoming Unit Games will be held twice monthly at the Arcadia Bridge Center. In January our games are on the 8th and 22nd. For reservations, contact Miriam Harrington at (626) 232-0558 or miratpf(a)aol.com. Congratulations to new Junior Masters *Hsing Fang* and *Victoria Livingstone*, new Club Master *Xiaoyan Zhou*, and new Advanced NABC Master *Kim Ebner*. -- build message Morris "Mojo" Jones mojo(a)PasadenaBridgeClub.com https://PasadenaBridgeClub.com <https://pasadenabridgeclub.com> Pasadena Bridge Club <https://pasadenabridgeclub.com>

LAST MEETING
by janet wickersham 24 Dec '22

24 Dec '22

Good Morning, I forgot to mention I spoke with Diane. She is not interested in the computer. Only the cards and the pencils. We need to rid her of the dealing machine and the things she wants. Michael, would you be able to pick those up from her house before January 8th? Mojo would like the dealing machine, but since he has a wife recovering from surgery plus is opening a new club, I think he’s tapped out. I don’t trust myself to carry the dealing machine. She mentioned we may want to hold the meetings at Mojo’s new club. I told her we had discussed it at the meeting and that if she is willing, we would like to continue the Unit games at her club for 2023. She seemed very pleased to hear that. If I think of anything else, I’ll let you know.

Email blasts are ready to go
by Morris Jones 24 Dec '22

24 Dec '22

Dear Board, I've successfully set up the accounts for sending email blasts to both the unit and the district. I'll plan to send one a few days before each Unit Game. I can't "advertise" my club, but I can certainly mention it when I write about the NAP District Final. :) P.S. I'm using this email address more often, but all of my old addresses will always work. Re: Board
by Morris Jones 20 Dec '22

20 Dec '22

We're fine with a 1:00 p.m. start time. Because of BBO bridge, we could never play the Afternoon hands. We're playing the REDZ hands, that are made for late afternoon games east coast, and afternoon games west coast. Basically any start time is fine. I'd like to add that I'm hoping to train or encourage someone else to direct the Unit Games, so I can give my wife a little time. No huge rush, I'll make sure they're well cared for in any case.
