Dear Board,
I am sorry to send this out to you, but I am unsure how to deal definitively with this problem.
At our last Board meeting, Kathy Cresto volunteered for and was made the new Membership Chairperson. I was grateful to Kathy for taking over the postion when Marie resigned, and Kathy leapt into it as she does, putting together descriptions of her job and the Ambassador positions. The next day I received another email from Marie saying that she had reconsidered and would like to have the job back. I explained that Kathy had taken it over and suggested she speak with her but that I had no issues with that happening. During the call, I mentioned that we did not have a Secretary and Marie said she would rather serve in that capacity and she is now running for the Board in the hopes of taking over the Secretary role. All good so far.
Then the chaos started, and it has been chaos. Gloria Rommel, one of the two Ambassadors, has taken great offense to (1) Kathy being named Membership Chair, and (2) to some of the changes that Kathy is making to the Ambassador position, mainly that instead of Gloria being “Head” Ambassador and doling out the assignments to new members, Kathy would randomly alternate between the 2 Ambassadors. She emailed me and I told her I had spoken at length with Kathy and had agreed to let her try out her new plan. Gloria has been abusive, argumentative, sending me more than one lengthy email about why this should not happen, even when I told her to respectfully let it go and try it this way. She will not let it go. I finally told her that I was done and not to email me or contact me in any way. She has now contacted Sherry to get her on her side, as if this were a war instead of the minor issue that it is. And now Gloria is running for the Board.
I am quite unwilling to serve on a Board with someone who is unable to compromise on anything or to let something go, and who has personal vendettas against anyone, and who is a very difficult person. This should not be stressful and there should not be this much animosity on our Board. It is creating a terrible environment for Kathy and for me.
I thought you all should know this directly from me.
Thanks for listening. I don’t need you to do anything but have my back.
Lisa

I am working on a write up of the above. Could you provide your thoughts as to what the position means to you.
Good morning,
I have generated a rough copy of the Ambassador Position for your review, edit, etc.
Please review and make any changes you deem necessary/as needed and return no later than Monday, January 15th as this position needs to be incorporated into the Bylaws.
TIA
Kathy

Pasadena San Gabriel Unit 559
December featured a great holiday party at the Arcadia Community Center
with 13 tables and a fabulous taco buffet. Desserts and drinks were
wonderful! We held a STaC game, with tons of masterpoints awarded in
black, silver, red, and gold
Winners at the holiday party:
* N/S: Stan Majcher, Madhu Sudan
* E/W: Adam Barron, Sherry Hansen
The unit also graciously sponsored a New Year's Eve swiss team
tournament on December 31. We had eight teams play -- five of the teams
had no player over 100 masterpoints! For the vast majority of the room
it was their first team tournament, and they all did splendidly. Indeed
the 2nd place finisher had a team of players none of whom were yet
Junior Masters! Congratulations to Fred Register, Leslie Klein, William
Snyder, and Yuriko Bonds!
Placing first at the New Year's Eve tournament were Roy Wilson, Gloria
Rommel, Angela Peters, and Ray Boncato.
For the first three months of 2024 our unit games will be held on the
1st and 3rd Sundays of each month. The first Sunday will be at the
Pasadena Bridge Club, and the third at the Arcadia Bridge Center.
Please make reservations for the unit games on the 7th or 21st by
contacting Miriam Harrington, (626) 232-0558, or miratpf(a)aol.com.
Congratulations to the following players for achieving new ranks in the
ACBL!
* New Sectional Masters: Hsing Fang, Uma Shrivastava
* New Regional Master: Patricia Staub
* New Adv NABC Master: Nina Huang
New courses starting at the Pasadena Bridge Club this month:
* Bridge Basics 1 - Introduction, January 10
* Introduction to Declarer Play, January 11
* Introduction to Defense, January 6
For information on all courses, visit

Word has it that Nina Huang earned enough silver points in a STaC game
at the Pasadena Bridge Club to earn her Life Master certificate! We'll
be celebrating that officially next month I'm sure.
The unit is reviving the "unit directory" of players and contact
information, but we're only including players who are opting in to being
listed. Most of you receive an email with the opt-in form recently, or
you can find a copy at either bridge club. If you would like other
players in the unit to be able to contact you for a game, be sure to
fill out one of the forms.
President Lisa Walker is also making preparations for unit board
elections in March, and updates to the unit by-laws. Give her letter a
read when you can.
