Dear Board,
I have bad news about our sectional. Our application was denied because Orange County is having one the same day and they refused to approve us even though we are 60 miles apart.
Our only option is to appeal to Orange County and get them to approve us. Does anyone know anyone there we could talk to? I can make the phone call. I think it’s pretty petty of them not to approve us since we applied first and approved them! We just didn’t get the district approvals before them.
We can look at other dates or hold off until next year.
Lisa
That’s too bad! My opinion is that by the time we seek approval, it doesn’t leave much time for planning and execution, I think it’s probably better to postpone or hold off until next year. Kim

Was this the column you were worried about. Obviously, I got it.

Something remarkable happened in April. On April 16 the ACBL held their second charity game of the year.
In these games, clubs that participate around North America all play the same hands. The ACBL provides an expert analysis of each hand after the game. The players and clubs pay an extra fee that goes to benefit ACBL charities.
Top ranked percentage scores ACBL-wide and in each district get a share of a large masterpoint pool. The top winner in each district earns 10 (ten) full black masterpoints! The next four positions get a hefty amount as well.
It turns out that our club was the only one in the district that ran the April charity pairs!
Congratulations to John Barrow and Karen Arase who scored a cool 10 masterpoints for that game! Peter Jager and Andrew Rottenbacher picked up 7.5!
Moral of the story: run the game, and play in the game. You never know what might happen. :)
Unit games are held on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of most months at the Pasadena Bridge Club. Full game results are available on the results page for the Pasadena Bridge Club. Visit https://pasadenabridgeclub.com click on Game Results, then ACBL Live for Clubs.
To reserve your seat in a Unit Game, contact Miriam Harrington, (626) 232-0558, or miatpf(a)aol.com<mailto:miatpf@aol.com>.
Our unit game on April 20 was renamed in honor of Dan Lubesnik, a long time bridge player and familiar face at the clubs and tournaments. Dan was in hospice care and passed away on the day of our game.
Dan played with Thompson Jin in the North American Pairs district final last October and qualified to advance to the finals in Flight B. Here are Thompson and Dan from that day.

Subject: [Unit559board] draft column?
I sent a draft column to the list, along with a large picture attachment. I can't tell if it was distributed to the list or not. Can anyone confirm?

Dear Unit 550 Board Members,
The link for your monthly board meetings is pasted below. I set it up as a recurring meeting, so you can use the same link for every meeting and can actually use it anytime you want (not just on the designated meeting dates). Whoever logs on first will be the host for that session unless you want to assign it to someone else during the session.
I set the AI Companion (for notetaking) to start automatically. I did not set it up to automatically record the session but I can do that if you want.
Let me know if you have any questions. I suggest pasting the link into your calendar as part of your appointment information for each meeting. I can send a calendar invitation for a recurring meeting, including the link, to anyone who provides me with an individual email address.
