Hey all! I've updated the web site http://bridgemojo.com with dates for
upcoming classes.
This fall I'm going to repeat the two popular single-topic classes:
November 14: The Stayman Convention
This is sort of the "9th lesson" of Bridge I. We'll cover Stayman,
the most popular bridge convention, in detail, and as a bonus have lots
more hands to play than most lessons.
December 12: Jacoby Transfer Bids
This convention is absolutely necessary for club and tournament
players. Like Stayman, it applies over 1NT opening bids, and frequently
earns declarer an extra trick during the play.
Both classes will be offered at Oneonta Congregational Church in South
Pasadena, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., on these two Thursday evenings. Each class
is $15, and space is limited -- reservations are required!
To reserve a seat in either class, please drop me an email by either
replying to this message or visiting http://bridgemojo.com/contact
I also have dates for the winter and spring sessions of Bridge I and
Bridge II posted.
Cheers,
Mojo

Bridge I, a.k.a. "Bidding in the 21st Century," is now available for
signups at the PCC Extension web site!
Here's a link to the signup page: http://goo.gl/SQt0Gl
Bridge I will be offered through PCC Extension on Wednesday evenings,
starting Sept. 11 for eight consecutive Wednesday evenings. The class
does not meet at PCC, but at Arcadia High School.
The course tuition is $95.00, plus $15 for the text book (if you don't
already own a copy).
This is your starting point ... no knowledge of bridge is assumed.
On the other hand, if you are already playing bridge regularly, you'll
find that this class is an excellent way to review the fundamentals of
Standard American bidding. Many students find repeat visits to be
extremely rewarding.
It's not a low-effort course, but quite challenging. If you love puzzles
and games of logic, bridge is a great game for you.
Space in the class is limited, so I do encourage you or your friends to
sign up early.
Best regards,
Mojo

I have a great turn out for Bridge III, starting next week on Thursday
evenings, at Oneonta Congregational Church in South Pasadena, 7:00 - 9:00.
This is a reminder to let me know if you plan to attend! There's no
preregistration required, but if I hear from you beforehand I can
reserve a seat for you.
Bridge III continues the ACBL's "Bridge in the 21st Century" program,
with a focus on defender play. Full details for the class are on my web
site here:
http://bridgemojo.com/content/bridge-3-summer-2013
By letting me know you plan to attend, I will add you to the email list
for the class and reserve your seat. The class is limited to 20
students, and I only offer it once a year.
Best regards,
Mojo

I have everything lined up to offer Bridge III this summer, not to be
confused with any of the summer movie sequels!
Bridge III is the most challenging of the "Bridge in the 21st Century"
series from the ACBL, with its focus on defense. The format is familiar,
with an hour of discussion, followed by hands to bid, play, and defend.
Working with your partner on defense is challenging and rewarding, and
undoubtedly the best way to improve your results at the duplicate club.
Class will be held on eight Thursday evenings, beginning June 20,
skipping July 4 and July 25. Here are the dates:
June 20, 27
July 11, 18
August 1, 8, 15, 22
The class meets at 7:00 p.m. at
Oneonta Congregational Church
1515 Garfield Ave.
South Pasadena, CA 91030
in the "Forum" room. It's a beautiful room and a lovely campus, with
parking adjacent to the room.
There's no need to pay in advance, but space is limited. If you'd like
to attend, please drop me a note and I'll reserve your seat. The cost is
$110 including the book. (If you already have the book deduct $15.)
Please invite your friends and favorite partners from the bridge club as
well!
Hope to see you there ...
Best regards,
Mojo

If you've been taking lessons from me, and haven't yet ventured into the
bridge club, this might be the time to give it a try.
Art at the Arcadia Bridge Center is starting a new series of newcomer
games on Tuesday evening, starting this week. The game starts at 7:15
p.m., but if you get there a little early, Art will have a one-topic
lesson at 7:00. (This week's topic is weak opening two-bids.)
The game is a real ACBL sanctioned bridge game, and the players will be
other newcomers to bridge like yourselves. Alongside the newcomer game
he also holds an "open" game, and I plan to be there this Tuesday
playing in the other room.
If you were in my class but didn't get a coupon for a free play at the
bridge club, let me know or tell Art, and we'll take care of it.
Meanwhile, if you're interested, don't forget to sign up for Bridge II
starting on Wednesday, April 10:

Hi everyone! Bridge II, "The Play of the Hand in the 21st Century," is
now available for registration through PCC Extension.
Here's the signup link on the PCC website: http://goo.gl/HXjdT
Class starts on Wednesday, April 10, at our same location at Arcadia
High School, 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The course is $95 plus $15 for the book.
We'll skip class on April 17, then continue for the following seven
Wednesday evenings.
This class is for anyone who understands the basics of bridge and
bidding. Bridge I is not a prerequisite. While the class focuses on play
of the hand as declarer, we'll also add a few new bidding tools to help
you find the right contract.
The format will be familiar -- we have a book and special cards. We'll
discuss a new topic on play, with a little bidding and defense in each
class, followed by playing and discussing bridge hands.
I have tentative dates for Bridge III on Defense starting in June. I'll
send another note when I have more information.
Hope you can make it!
Best regards,
Mojo

Happy Holidays! This week is a great time to play bridge with family and
friends -- or even online. :)
I now have dates for my next classes for 2013. You may want to pass this
on to friends who don't play yet, or keep them in your calendar for
yourself.
One last reminder for the special class in two weeks on Thursday,
January 10, covering Jacoby Transfer Bids. If you've been thinking of
signing up for that class, let me know soon! I only have a couple of
seats remaining.
Bridge I, Introduction to Bridge and "Bidding in the 21st Century"
begins on Wednesday, January 30, offered again through PCC Extension,
and taught at Arcadia High School. Register online at PCC Extension,
here is a link to the class page: http://goo.gl/yKfAf
Bridge II, "Play of the Hand in the 21st Century," will follow on
Wednesdays, beginning April 10. Here's a link to register for that
class: http://goo.gl/x0bAL
I've also requested summer dates for Bridge III, on Defense. I'll have
more on that as the time becomes closer.
As always, thanks so much for your interest!

so I wanted to give you one more reminder in case you were putting it off.
It's at 7:00 p.m., at Oneonta Congregational Church in South Pasadena.
If you'd like to go and I haven't heard from you, let me know so I can
save you a seat. It's $12 per person.
Bring your favorite partner if you like. :)
Also on January 10, we'll hold a class on Jacoby Transfer Bids. I'll
mention that one in a few weeks.
