Some exciting bridge news
Yes it's true that classes for new players are starting up again in
September, through PCC Extension. But there's something else!
Special screening of /Double Dummy/
I've arranged for a screening of the bridge documentary /Double Dummy/
by filmmaker John McAllister.
The screening will be at Laemmle's Playhouse 7 theater on Colorado
Blvd., Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 7:30 p.m.
I loved seeing the film (twice!) last summer in Toronto, and I'm
delighted to get to share it with folks here in Pasadena. I'm hoping the
filmmaker will join us for some Q&A after the screening.
You can see the trailer and arrange for tickets to the screening by
visiting the event page on Tugg.com
<https://new.tugg.com/events/double-dummy> here, or visit BridgeMojo.com
<https://bridgemojo.com/double-dummy-movie> for more information.
Bridge Basics 1 & 2, Fall 2018
This fall I begin anew with two series of classes from Audrey Grant's
acclaimed /Better Bridge/ series.
In September and October, I'll feature /Bridge Basics 1 - An
Introduction/ on six Wednesday evenings starting September 5.
/Bridge Basics 2 - Competitive Bidding/ will follow shortly after,
starting on October 24 for six Wednesdays.
Bridge Basics 1 is the starting course for brand new bridge players.
We'll learn the mechanics of the game by tracing its origins through
/whist/ and /auction bridge/ to the modern game of /contract bridge/.
We'll learn how to analyze a hand for the best contract, and practice
bidding and playing.
If you are already a regular club player, you will especially enjoy the
Competitive Bidding series. This class will help you both find your own
great contracts and make mayhem of the opponents' auctions. It's all
about getting the best score for your partnership.

of on-campus parking.

Monday Night Bridge Game
The Monday night duplicate game for non-Life Masters continues to be a
big hit! We've been enjoying this regular shortened weekday evening game
-- we play 14 boards instead of the usual 25-27 for a full-length game.
At the end of each game, we gather for an informal /postmortem/ to look
over difficult hands, or discuss a bidding, play, or defense topic.
This is the place to be to get comfortable with all of the trappings of
modern bridge club play and tournaments. Find out all about it on
BridgeMojo.com <https://bridgemojo.com/game>.
Audrey Grant Bridge Festivals
Last January, I was invited by Audrey to direct games at her Bridge
Festival in Sea Island, GA. This year she's moving the event to a nearby
site on St. Simon Island. It's a wonderful place to learn from Audrey in
the mornings and play duplicate in the afternoons and evenings.
I'm hoping to attend and run games for Audrey again this year. She
doesn't really advertise the festivals much because she tends to sell
out every year! If this sounds like part of a great winter vacation to
you, you might want to look into it soon. You can see all of her
festivals here: http://www.betterbridge.com/festivals
See you all soon!

Monday Night game
The Monday night bridge game is going dark for three Mondays for the
holidays, plus I'm travelling to Sea Island, Georgia, to direct games
for Audrey Grant at her festival there Jan. 6-11.
The game will reopen on January 15. (My wedding anniversary, which just
shows what a special woman I'm partnered with!)
The game has been a big surprise for me. I had hoped to have four or
five tables on Monday nights. Instead, I've been having to buy tables,
bidding boxes, and scoring devices to keep up with the demand. The first
three games averaged 13 tables each. I'm ordering a couple more of
everything next week.
LA Holiday Regional
This is the first year for L.A. to host a regional bridge tournament
during Christmas week. End-of-the-year tournaments are a little bit
special in bridge.
I just added a feature article to the web site: the New Player Guide to
the LA Regional
<https://bridgemojo.com/feature/new-player-guide-la-regional-2017>. Big
tournaments are great for newer players. I hope to see you there!
Best regards, and best of the holiday season!
