Folks,
First I want to share a personal experience.
I spent a year on the Los Angeles County Civil Grand Jury- 2018-2019. I made new friends,
in particular one friend who was living in Glendora, we used the metro to get to downtown
LA and back to reduce our carbon footprint. In December (2018) I was off on an expedition
to the Galapagos, of course we did not meet during Christmas, when I came back in January,
I found my friend was in the hospital, there was the flu at that time and Metro is crowded
at peak times. Anyway he ended in a coma and died a few days later in the hospital. I
never got to talk to him after my trip. After that I decided to not take the metro and
drove downtown for the rest of my service on the jury. I did not know of masks at that
time. Social distancing, well I have practiced that- kind of, most of my life.
Getting back to the social aspect of the club and its members, first I appreciate you
welcoming me to the group. I found a new friend, Karen Arase, we have gone on a couple of
cruises together - now now- do not go there. The social aspect of these meetings are a
little before the game and maybe after. But during the game itself there is a tension, and
given the competitiveness I am not sure there is much socializing. I have also enjoyed
Roy, Denise and Karmen delightful people, not to say there are aren't there.
I Know this looks like a long rant, I do this late at night and having polished a half
bottle of single malt scotch makes me lower my inhibitions.
Ok so as far as opening uo, here is my 2 cents
Unless there is a vaccine, it does not make sense, my opinion to open
We now know 20- xx year olds can also be carriers, though our group does not have very
many of them.
We also know that those who have been infected and recovered end up with - damage to their
lungs, possible loss of taste and smell (for the time being)
I do not want to be n alarmist, but there it is.
As far as meeting times are concerned, I have nom particular plans, all my vacations have
been cancelled, and I am looking at local road trips, rather than be cooped up in my tiny
home.
Regards and best wishes to all, stay safe.
Michael
