Thanks to both Michael and Mojo for airing thoughts about the unit.
All helpful. Michael, I’m hoping sometime you would be willing to arrange a visit to
Marie’s home to pick up the cards, the pencils, (forgot to mention napkins) and the
dealing machine. It’s more than I can do. Just bring them to the Bridge center. Mojo
will pick up the machine on January 8th. Thanks so much.

Michael, thanks for your great late-night ponderings. :)
You asked about the documents that detail the purpose of an ACBL unit ...
There's a useful page on the ACBL web site:
https://acbl.org/administration/#units
<https://acbl.org/administration/#units>
Good links there: "Handbooks for Units" and what we implicitly agree to under
the "ACBL Bylaws, rules and regulations."
There's also a lot of useful information governing the unit's role in the ACBL
policies and governing documents
here:https://acbl.org/administration/#docs
<https://acbl.org/administration/#docs>
In the "codification" Chapter III A. covers Units:
https://web2.acbl.org/codification/CHAPTER3A.pdf
<https://web2.acbl.org/codification/CHAPTER3A.pdf> This document is probably the
most important one to be aware of as a unit board member. (You might look for the part on
"brings food to unit games," I couldn't find it! :) )
Cheers,
Mojo

Folks,
I am new to the board and the group. Since my retirement and divorce, I was looking for
some social experiences, while I have made some friends in this group, the games as far as
I am concerned are not really social events.
Anyway, my thoughts:
The Bridge club, has been in existence for some time. The people who make it possible are
all volunteers.
1) what is the purpose of this club- I presume there are documents that detail this.
Rules and so on.
2) To be able to function - need resources
3) Since the club does not levy any dues
4) these resources have to come from the fees collected from the games hosted, and all
the volunteers personal efforts.
5) Used to be 1 unit game a month, having 2 has added more strain on the volunteers
6) the budget for the food was higher, and in some cases allowed for catered food.
7) Question - I understand when people get together - I guess (it is custom) to have
drink, food? - what and how much!
8) Miriam has done a great job keeping track of the funds- Kudos to her.
I am going to stop here, late night musings, and a little (a lot) of wine.
I hope I have. not offended anybody,
Have a great Christmas
Michael

With the exception of the last Unit Game in March, 2023, we are covered for people to
bring th snacks. We do need someone to volunteer for that. My feeling is that these
things need to be discussed and decided by the new board. If I heard right, Lisa said she
had 13 trips planned for next year. I’m assuming they are longer than one week. That
would mean she would be gone for 1/2 the hear. If that’s the case, it would be hard to be
a functioning board member. Just my thoughts added to yours.

Didn't Lisa just become a director?

We're fine with a 1:00 p.m. start time. Because of BBO bridge, we could never play
the Afternoon hands. We're playing the REDZ hands, that are made for late afternoon
games east coast, and afternoon games west coast.
Basically any start time is fine.
I'd like to add that I'm hoping to train or encourage someone else to direct
the Unit Games, so I can give my wife a little time. No huge rush, I'll make sure
they're well cared for in any case.

Mojo can verify, but I don't think we can
move the game to 1pm because we wouldn't qualify for the common game standings
