*Intermediate Lesson Wednesday 12:15pm - Responding to 1NT with a major or
the majors*
Do you think you understand how to use Stayman and Jacoby transfers over
partner’s 1NT? Think again. There are actually many, many different
possibilities. I’ve counted 21 different hand types, but there are many
more, including slam tries in a minor after Stayman, but this lesson will
focus on the majors. We will go quickly through the basics and focus on
the more obscure bidding sequences. If we were in the clubs there would be
a lot of memorization, but online you can keep a cheat sheet handy (which I
will provide) to help you remember the bids. Although this is billed as an
intermediate lesson, it is really appropriate for all levels.

This week we are offering two classes ($5 per class):
Wed 12:15 Intermediate - uppercuts, penalty doubles, hold-up plays
Wed 6:15 Advanced - responding to partner's overcall
“Although all of us are pretty much up to speed on overcalls, we flounder
around a bit when responding to partner’s overcall, particularly when we
have some points. This is especially true when partner uses Michaels or
the Unusual NT (how do we invite game vs. just making competitive or
preemptive bids?) In this lesson I will introduce several methods for
inviting game in particular, and how to get to the right game if that’s
where the partnership belongs. If you are interested try to get your
partner(s) interested as well, as nearly everything presented depends on
partnership agreements and it would be useful to practice bidding hands
with your partner. While I wouldn’t expect you to adopt everything
presented, you should find at least a few of the ideas worth considering.”
