I no longer am suggesting that the board become involved in the management of a club to replace the Bridge Center, but I want to remind all of you that one of the main purpose of the board is to promote bridge, and specifically item C in the bylaws:
C. To promote the development and organization of affiliated clubs within the Unit.
If Fredy can find a way to keep the Bridge Center open, the unit board should strive to help him. One way to do that is with a zero interest loan to help him with tables, chairs, etc.

I’ve played bridge more than half my life. The lesser half I wasted.
I strongly disagree! There are a lot of people that relay on this area for their bridge play for a lot of reasons.

Hi, friends,
I spoke to Diane, and she is not interested in selling the club, but will be closing the doors. She would like to sell the tables, etc. I have talked to Fredy Minter and he is interested in reopening the Bridge Center. If Fredy can secure the same location at a reasonable rent I would like to propose that the board buy the tables, etc and then give them to Fredy at a zero percent loan. I am trying to help keep the Bridge Center open…. We have all played there and met many of our friends there. I hope you agree that it would be a shame to lose it if we can keep it. Would one of you, as a board member, introduce this as topic of board discussion? Time is growing short!

Good morning Roy and thank you for reaching out to me. Yes I’m interested but have a lot of questions. Where would the location be? Still at the same place? What are the circumstances that happened with the parking and everything if it is still gonna be at the same place. How much is rent, and what other stipulations are there?

Hi, friends,
I asked Fredy Minter if he had any interest in taking the Arcadia Bridge Center, and yes, he does, but has a number of questions which I cannot answer. I have a question of you, the board members: Are you interested in helping him become the new owner? Could I ask that this topic become an agenda item?

A bridge friend from the Long Beach club asked me a question concerning the closure of the Arcadia Bridge Center, and after a short discussion I decided to share it with the board.
Should the board consider asking Diane if she would donate her supplies to them and
the board would hire a director/manager to keep the club open?
Friends, I have no opinion on this, but it was an interesting question so I wanted to share it and let you consider it. I don’t think this is a unique idea, as I believe the Laguna Woods club is run this way, and there are probably others.

Subject: [Unit559board] How to use the board email list
For conversations related to the unit 559 board, we have an email list -- what was known in the old days as a "listserv".
To send an email to everyone on the board, address it to <unit559board(a)bridgemojo.com><mailto:unit559board@bridgemojo.com>. If that address is in your To: Cc: or Bcc: fields, everyone on the board will receive a copy.
(That's not guaranteed -- I have no control over what individual spam filters might do to incoming email.)
If you email the list from a different email address, it might be "held for moderation." Only email from the known member addresses will be forwarded automatically.
So be careful! If you reply to a list email, it will most likely be copied to everyone else on the list. If you want to have a private email conversation, be sure to address the email privately.
Best regards,
Mojo

The ACBL has a lot of good information about the jobs and
responsibilities of unit boards.
On their site, in the "About ACBL" section, there's a subsection "Units
and Districts," and if you scroll the Units part, there are links that
include a Handbook for Units. If you'll be sending emails on behalf of
the unit (official business), we use "Marketing Solutions by Pianola"
for that.
https://acbl.org/administration/#units
The other relevant document is the ACBL Codification, which is a 400
page document, bur 8 pages are dedicated to Units (starting on page 71):
https://web2.acbl.org/codification/Codification.pdf
The Codification is also a treasure trove of everything you ever wanted
to know about ACBL operations and administration.
I know there are contacts at HQ who will support unit boards with
requests, but I'll have to find out who that is.
Cheers,
Mojo
