Dear Board and Board-to-Be,
Our first Board meeting as a new Board will be this Monday, March 4 at 7PM via Zoom. Hopefully MoJo can set up the Zoom and send out the link that day. At that meeting, we will take care of the following business:
1. Appointment of Officers
2. Appointment of Committee Chairs
3. Committee Members
I will be sending out an agenda on Friday. IN the meantime, I have attached the By Laws and the Standing Rules to familiarize you with the requirements of each position. We will have nominations from the floor for the officers and committee chairs and then the full board will vote on each one. If you have any questions ahead of time, I will try and answer them.
I would request during the meeting, since there will be 12 of us, that you mute yourself unless you are speaking to the group or we are taking a vote.
Current Board, I will be resending you the minutes from the last meeting along with hopefully a financial report (Miriam??). You may notice that I have not discussed the Amended ByLaw s. I have decided to pull these off the table for now because it is in conflict with our current election procedures and i want the new Board to correct that problem.
I reconciled the list with Miriam this morning. We currently have 27
pairs (13.5 tables) signed up. It's fully reasonable to expect that to
climb to 15-16.
Notable among the list are several pairs of new players from my classes
and novice games, including one who may be playing in their first
duplicate. We're going to emphasize welcoming behavior, and particularly
NOT CRITICIZING PARTNER during the game. And I'm talking about the A
flight players. (I need to have a conversation with Madhu.)

Just a few comments—
Mojo is ordering and picking up pizza
Angela is bringing salad
Richard is bringing a cake and cake plates.
Mojo has adequate plates and utensils for the pizza and salad.

Can someone bring water or another drink?
Alsowe will be giving out the life master pins, mini mckinney medals and ace of clubs certificates (hopefully—the ACBL said they mailed them to me yesterday)
The game is free of charge to all players with a max of 16 tables.

Mike Marcucci is suggesting that we contribute $500 to the summer Long
Beach Regional to designate one day of the regional "Unit 559 Day." If
we do, he'll step up with a wall printout of pictures of all 510 Life
Masters who are members of the unit.

Our election ballot is set and it looks like, barring any unforeseen movements, we do not need to have an election. We have 7 people running for 7 spots. The are as follows:

We do need to have an election to approve the amended By Laws so those ballots will be passed out at the Election Party on March 3rd. Hopefully Richard will be there to tabulate them as the head of the Nominating Committee.
I would still like to have the Election Party free to our players, that means everyone that comes. We can limit it to ____??? tables and require reservations. I think it’s a nice thing to do for our members and we have plenty of cash in the bank, as well as a Sectional coming up in July which hopefully we will make extra funds from. I don’t think should say that only Unit 559 members are free. Let’s just have a nice game with food and drink and free plays. I figure it will cost us about $600 all told with the food, drink, sanction fee, club rental and director fee. But of course this is up to the whole board. We will not have a meeting beforehand, so please sound in on your thoughts in the next 5 days so Kathy can publicize this for us. Also, Mariam, do you think my calculation is correct about cost?
