Anyone for a Christmas team game?
by Morris Jones 24 Dec '20

24 Dec '20

*Let's have a Christmas afternoon game just for fun. :)* My RealBridge director credentials are up. The site is beautiful. :) I've played a little pairs and team-of-four games on the site, and it's gorgeous. Every table has audio and video built-in. My experience with it has been nearly perfect, but it does require a solid broadband internet connection. You can see what the tables look like here: https://realbridge.online/8.html#player_guide and visit the rest of that link to learn more about playing there. The FAQ has information about devices and browsers. At this link you can test your camera and microphone with your device and browser: https://play.realbridge.online/camera.html Would anyone like to have a 12ish board Swiss Team game (or maybe round robin) on Christmas afternoon? Thinking of maybe a 90 minute game with check-in at 3:30 and play start at 4:00. We could easily play three 4-board matches in that time. This would be *for fun only*, no sanction, no director calls, no masterpoint awards. Anyone from anywhere is welcome to join in. If you want to play but don't have teammates, I will be happy to pair up partnerships and make teams. There are some disadvantages with the current version of RealBridge: * There are no robots. I have no way to handle an odd number of pairs (other than sitouts or standby players). * The team matches are all head-to-head, no three-team round robins, so I need to have an even number of teams, or have "bye" matches. Or if we had an odd number of teams, we could just switch to playing a pairs game for fun. Either way it'd be a festive game of cards just for fun. We'd be able to visit and chat like we haven't for a while. * 3:30 check-in, 4:00 start, over by 5:30ish * Reservations required * No sanction, no director calls, no masterpoints * And no charge. :) * Test your camera and mic before, please! Wednesday bridge
by Morris Jones 23 Dec '20

23 Dec '20

Yes! We're open for bridge today, on our regular schedule. * 10:45 a.m. 0-500 Pairs * 7:15 p.m. Newcomer pairs * 7:30 p.m. Open Pairs I am collecting reservations for these games, so *please let me know* if you're coming to play. Of course it's also fine to just drop in! I'd like to be able to warn players if we aren't expecting enough entries. We'll have a Zoom after party for the newcomers. I'll send that link to the newcomer list. As I write this, I'm in a club manager training course for RealBridge. They've done a beautiful job! I'm hoping to invite folks to a social team game (no sanction) over the holidays. Bridge this morning! 10:45
by Morris Jones 22 Dec '20

22 Dec '20

I'm late with the game announcement, but we certainly do have a 0-500 game this morning at 10:45. Come play if you can! Right now I'm playing in a short 8-board match using a European online bridge game from realbridge.com, and it's heartwarmingly beautiful. We couldn't hold masterpoint games there, but for just playing a duplicate game or social game it's magnificent. I'll report back more soon. 0-1000 Pairs tonight 7:15
by Morris Jones 21 Dec '20

21 Dec '20

The Winter Wonderland regional is over, and I managed to play in five sessions, all side games. Didn't get into the overalls, but had some moments of brilliance, and witnessed some. :) It was good to play some bridge at the regional level again, and whets my appetite to travel to a bridge tournament again. Meanwhile, here we are, and there's bridge to play tonight. *7:15, 0-1000 pairs*. Who's in and who needs a partner? Drop me a note! On the email server side, Microsoft has dropped the block on my new email server. This note is coming to you from the new one. I may back up the old one and decommission it today. :) Happy Winter Solstice and Jupiter-Saturn conjunction day from Dragon and Mojo. Saturday PPDVBC games
by Morris Jones 19 Dec '20

19 Dec '20

Hi all! There's lots of bridge to play tomorrow. * 10:00 a.m. 0-500 Pairs * 12:30 p.m. Open Pairs I've already invited the newcomers to their game at 12:20. *Please let me know *if you'd like to play and need a partner, or if you have a friend or visitor from out of the area who'd like to play. I also have the 9:30 Mini Lesson on the calendar. I'll be covering a "play of the hand" topic. Here's the Zoom link for that: Time: Dec 19, 2020 09:30 AM Pacific Time (US and Canada) Join Zoom Meeting https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83912578991?pwd=Y1R2UnJ1TFM2dVZzYmsyTDdzeFcydz09 Meeting ID: 839 1257 8991 Passcode: 7ntxx In mail server news (if you're curious) you might recall that Microsoft is blocking my new mail server. They still are. But I've worked around the blockage for the time being by routing all mail to hotmail, outlook, msn, and live.com through my old server which is /not /blocked. This will work temporarily. In the meantime, my hosting provider Linode is taking up my cause and working on convincing Microsoft to unblock the new mail server. Once they're successful, I'll be able to shut down the old server. Internet drama. :) Best regards, Mojo -- Morris Jones, Monrovia, CA BridgeMojo <http://bridgemojo.com> Old Town Sidewalk Astronomers <http://otastro.org> Mojo's Blog <http://mojo.whiteoaks.com>
