The by-laws provide that the ACBL is a 5010(c)(4) non-profit corporation which means:

 

IRC Section 501©(4) of the Internal Revenue Code provides for the exemption of two distinct types of organizations, each with its own qualification requirements:

  1. Social Welfare Organizations: These are civic leagues or organizations that are not organized for profit but operate exclusively for the promotion of social welfare. Additionally, local associations of employees, whose membership is limited to the employees of a designated person or persons in a particular municipality, can also qualify under this category. The net earnings of these organizations must be devoted exclusively to charitable, educational, or recreational purposes12.

To be tax-exempt as a social welfare organization under IRC Section 501©(4), an organization must meet the following criteria:
