I just sent this note to seventeen students who have
signed up for a Play of the Hand class to run on Tuesday
afternoons for the next six Tuesdays.
If any of you on the board want to "audit" a class to
see how it works, you're welcome to do so. Let me know
you're coming ahead of time please!
-------- Forwarded Message --------
This is pretty exciting, there are seventeen of you
who've signed up for my Tuesday afternoon "Play of the
Hand" class!
We're going to meet for the next six Tuesdays at 3:00.
I'll start the Zoom session a few minutes early so we
can socialize a little.
I think you'll be delighted with the tools I have for
this class. We're using a system by Shark Bridge built
specifically for teaching bridge. We'll get to examine
card combinations, watch a hand, and play hands.
Everyone can have their own bridge table, or we can
play in pairs or foursomes. This is the system I'll be
using for the Bridge Basics courses for PCC this fall.
It's being used elsewhere to reported success, and
this is my first attempt with it.
We're all discovering that there a lot of features of
this game that are
easier to understand in an
online format than the traditional cards on the table.
Of course there are trade-offs as well, but we're
giving up very little.
This is also why I've asked many of you to hold off
paying for the class. Let's see how things go in this
first session. I think it will go well, and I'm
excited by the possibilities, but if you have trouble
with it for any reason, I'm giving you an opt-out with
my blessing. (Those of you who already paid, you know
I'm good for it.)
We'll all start on Zoom. Here's your invite for the
class. The same link will be good for all classes, but
of course I'll send it before each one:
Morris Jones is inviting you to a
scheduled Zoom meeting.

As we start the meeting, I will paste a web URL in the
chat session. Clicking this link will open your
browser, minimize Zoom (hopefully), and take you to
your bridge table.
For those who are
planning to use two screens, I will also send
the web URL to this list in an email, and you can open
the browser on your second (non-Zoom) machine.
Finally, there is an optional book that accompanies
this class. It's
Play of the Hand in the 21st
Century by Grant and Starzec. If you'd like to
acquire the book, it's available in both spiral-bound
and Kindle formats. Here are Amazon links to the book:
I'm nervous but optimistic! I'll see you all Tuesday
afternoon!
Best regards,
Mojo
