Hi Mojo (and all),

The first step might be to publicize to other local Units and our members that these items are available at not cost.  Then:

As for tables, might Goodwill, Salvation Army or a similar non-profit organization like them as a donation to be restored and resold (or would they not believe this would be a worthwhile project?)

As for the rest of the items, it sounds like an empty dumpster is needed.

Subject: [Unit559board] old tables and boards

I'm having to make room in my garage, so I've moved the old unit tables and metal boards into a storage locker (where I'm keeping a lot of astronomy gear temporarily as well).

I've attached a picture of the stacks of tables.

These can't stay here, of course, because I'll be emptying the space in the next couple of months.

So the question becomes: Should we keep them or dump them?

The surfaces of the tables are beat up. If there were covers for them, they'd be sort of usable for a decently sized sectional. That's a big "if." The old table covers that Mike Marcucci had have been disposed of. You don't want the table covers I'm using at the bridge club. They cost more than the tables.

So let's talk about hypothetically replacing them for that hypothetical big sectional at the San Marino Women's Club in 2025. Decent new folding bridge tables cost about $30 each. Buying 40 of them would come to about $1200.

Then they would need a place to be stored. If we put out a call, it's possible someone else would offer garage space.

If we dumped these tables, we'd have to decide between buying and renting tables next year. (It might be possible to rent tables from the district. I'd have to ask Kevin Lane.)

As for the board sets, I don't believe they're useful at all. They're beat up, and the cards in them are trash. I know Ed Lechner wants some. I wouldn't do anything but give them away. If we have enough machine-compatible board sets for pair games at a sectional, we also have enough for a team game.

It really pains me to turn these into trash, but sadly I think that's what they are. Someone talk me out of it?

Comments please?

Mojo
