I misunderstood your question. I thought THEY were interested in her supplies.

I want make it clear that I have no personal interest as to the future of the Arcadia Bridge Center, but I did want to make sure the board members knew of options.

One of  the largest club in the ACBL is located in Laguna Woods, and I believe their unit board still has control of the sanction.  They employ several different directors, and a managing director… and make a healthy profit from the venture without being directly involved.  Anyway, it seems worth a discussion whatever the outcome.

Yes, it would take someone with the right set of skills to take on this club.  One, can only hope.

I do not think that the Board wants to be running a club.  It would require quite a bit of oversight and financial management.  I would be opposed to that.  If someone wants to come in and purchase it or take it over independently, that would be great but it requires a certain skill set and a desire to work many afternoons per week.  It’s too bad because so many Unit members rely on it for their bridge game.

And I believe that MoJo had always planned to open his own bridge club regardless of whether Arcadia was there or not.

Well, it’s an interesting thought, Roy, but who would run it?

I would hate to see the Arcadia Bridge Center close but it is my guess that the Pasadena Bridge Center was started with the expectation that this might happen.

A bridge friend from the Long Beach  club asked me a question concerning the closure of the Arcadia Bridge Center, and after a short discussion I decided to share it with the board.

Should the board consider asking Diane if she would donate her supplies to them and
the board would hire a director/manager to keep the club open?

Friends, I have no opinion on this, but it was an interesting question so I wanted to share it and let you consider it.  I don’t think this is a unique idea, as I believe the Laguna Woods club is run this way, and there are probably others.

I’ve played bridge more than half my life.  The lesser half I wasted.
