Jan, your email account has been hacked.  You probably cannot even change your password, either as the hacker has access to your account and would be able to see the change.
Please create a new account… and for anyone else, please know that Gmail has the most secure accounts of any email provider.

BTW, this same scam occurred with Sandra Franciscus, but it was her email account that was used to scam the people in her address book and she and I caught it early enough that nobody was swindled.

Subject: [Unit559board] Re: GIFT CARD SCAM

I got one today, using 'Jan W' saying that she wanted to give gift cards to the people who worked hard for the group. Said it was between her and me and not to tell anyone, wanted my opinion. I said I had none and I did not get anything further. The phone of this person is 909-834-4660.
Caution on this number.
Michael

Most of these "gift card" scams are not in the purchase, but are used to transfer money.  An example is when you might get a cry for help from someone you know asking for gift cards.  This is actually a scammer who has stolen your friends identity.  They say they are in a bind somewhere and gift cards are the easiest way to transfer money to them.  Of course, the person asking is not really somebody you know.
