When I first started planning a weekly schedule for PPDVBC, I
thought I one feature would be to mirror the popular Monday and
Wednesday day games from the San Marino Bridge Club. I had a
conflict with the Unit 556 club next door on Mondays, and many of
our players are dual members of 559 and 556, so I went with Tuesday
and Wednesday.
The Tuesday and Wednesday Open Pairs games at 11:00 have always been
lightly attended, and lately have not had enough players to hold a
game. (In their place, a 0-500 game is doing fairly well.)
This mirrors a trend throughout many of the virtual clubs. Open
players have many more relaxed options for a competitive online
bridge game on BBO or elsewhere.
The weekend open games continue to be going strong.
I've had a request to make an Open Pairs game available on a
weeknight to try and accommodate players who spend the day working
but would still like to find a good club game in the evening.
My personal schedule is occupied on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday
with games and classes. I'm preserving Thursday and Friday as a
personal "weekend."
I thought there might be interest in a Wednesday evening game,
especially if I held it alongside my regular 7:15 Newcomer game. The
open game would get credit for the newcomer tables.
If there is interest in a Wednesday evening game, would you
please let me know? We would play from 7:30 'til about 9:30. I'm
especially interested to offer the game if I have some help
directing.
(Indeed, if anyone with good computer skills and knowledge of BBO is
interested in directing online, I'm very interested in offering
directing work to support more teaching opportunities. BBO directors
are not required to be certified ACBL directors! The skills are a
quite different. That said, I would expect a non-certified director
to be at least working toward that certification.)
