Yesterday's afternoon game featured some real fireworks. We played randomly shuffled hands, and had this beauty with two voids. Ho hum, just another 7-6 hand:

Dealer: South
Vul: None

♠Q72
72
KQT96
♣J93

♠95
T9
753
♣AQ7642

♠T3
K8
AJ842
♣KT85

♠AKJ864
AQJ6543
-
♣-

Want to try bidding this one with your partner? With the heart finesse "on," it makes seven with either hearts or spades as trump. Only one table bid a slam, and all three tables played in hearts.

Just to add to the fun (at least for North-South) this hand came up two boards later:

Dealer: West
Vul: N-S

♠AKQ984
T7
98653
♣-

♠J32
9832
T42
♣J73

♠-
KJ54
J7
♣T986542

♠T765
AQ6
AKQ
♣AKQ

This is another one to practice bidding with your partner. At least with this one, every table bid six. Only one table found the 7NT bid that wins the hand.

That's the thing about bridge and baseball. You never know what you're going to see when you show up!

This week at the Pasadena Pomona Downey virtual bridge club, we'll have Open Pairs games Tuesday-Wednesday at 11:00, and Saturday-Sunday at 12:30. Come on out to play!

For the newer players, we have three great limited games:
I have semi-private lessons going on right now, using Zoom and BBO.

I have a new software system from Shark Bridge that will enable me to teach a large group of students. I'm going to ask for volunteers soon to help me practice a session and work with everything.

I'm planning to offer an eight-lesson series on play of the hand starting in the next week or two. I'm working on scheduling right now.

My beginner bridge classes through PCC are scheduled to start on August 25 on Tuesday evenings. I want to try and work this class in before those start. (The PCC courses are not yet in their catalog. I'll let you know!)

Best regards,
Mojo
