This is ACBL's annual charity event to benefit Alzheimer's
Association. All of the ACBL sanction fees plus a portion of BBO's
service fee is being donated to Alzheimer's Association. The
directors for PPDVBC are kicking in their fee as well.
The event has always been designed to be a "bridge marathon," and
I've always wanted to offer it in that spirit. This year I'm going
to do something close to that. The hard core program would be to
offer and play 16 hours of bridge through the day, matching the 16
hours of daylight available on the first day of summer. I'm not
going that far. :)
Over the weekend of June 20 and 21, I'm going to offer ten Open
Pairs games, four 299er games, and four 749er games.
Dave White said he's going to try and set up "series" awards for the
open games on Saturday and Sunday. If you play in at least two of
the five games each day, we'll combine your two best percentage
scores and create series winners for extra points. (Maybe we
can work out something for the four 0-300 and 0-750 games as well.)
Everyone is welcome to play in as many or as few games as they can
over the weekend. The masterpoint awards are black points rated 200%
of normal club awards. If we get at least three tables for a game,
we'll play bridge.
Open games will play 6 minutes per board, the limited games 7
minutes. Card fees for this event will be 5 BB$ per game.
Dropping Friday afternoon game: The 4:15 p.m. game had a
difficult couple of weeks. We're going to take Friday off this week.
The Thursday games have been a tough one as well, but Thursday
evening would be the only evening open game on the schedule. I'm
going to hang on to the two Thursday games for at least one more
week.
Guest policy: Remember this is our local "virtual bridge
club," and the ACBL has a fairly strong policy about players who
have not been players at any of the local clubs in our three units.
Guests are allowed to play occasionally with member
players. Be sure to let me know at least an hour ahead of game time,
and send me your guest partner's BBO screen name for each game.
As far as I know this policy remains in effect for The
Longest Day. If there's any change I'll let you know!
