Some exciting bridge news
Yes it's true that classes for new players are starting
up again in September, through PCC Extension. But there's
something else!
Special screening of Double
Dummy
I've arranged for a screening of the bridge documentary Double
Dummy by filmmaker John McAllister.
The screening will be at Laemmle's Playhouse 7 theater on
Colorado Blvd., Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 7:30 p.m.
I loved seeing the film (twice!) last summer in Toronto,
and I'm delighted to get to share it with folks here in
Pasadena. I'm hoping the filmmaker will join us for some
Q&A after the screening.
You can see the trailer and arrange for tickets to the
screening by visiting the event
page on Tugg.com here, or visit
BridgeMojo.com for more information.
Bridge Basics 1 & 2, Fall 2018
This fall I begin anew with two series of classes from
Audrey Grant's acclaimed Better Bridge series.
In September and October, I'll feature Bridge Basics
1 - An Introduction on six Wednesday evenings
starting September 5.
Bridge Basics 2 - Competitive Bidding will follow
shortly after, starting on October 24 for six Wednesdays.
Bridge Basics 1 is the starting course for brand new
bridge players. We'll learn the mechanics of the game by
tracing its origins through whist and auction
bridge to the modern game of contract bridge.
We'll learn how to analyze a hand for the best contract,
and practice bidding and playing.
If you are already a regular club player, you will
especially enjoy the Competitive Bidding series. This
class will help you both find your own great contracts and
make mayhem of the opponents' auctions. It's all about
getting the best score for your partnership.
Enroll online at PCC Extension. Here are the links:
Or call PCC Extension at (626) 585-7608.
Each course is $75 plus $10 for the book. Classes are
held at Arcadia High School from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Our
classroom is very close to lots of on-campus parking.

Monday Night Bridge Game
The Monday night duplicate game for non-Life Masters
continues to be a big hit! We've been enjoying this regular
shortened weekday evening game -- we play 14 boards instead
of the usual 25-27 for a full-length game.
At the end of each game, we gather for an informal postmortem
to look over difficult hands, or discuss a bidding, play, or
defense topic.
This is the place to be to get comfortable with all of the
trappings of modern bridge club play and tournaments. Find
out all about it on
BridgeMojo.com.
Audrey Grant Bridge Festivals
Last January, I was invited by Audrey to direct games at her
Bridge Festival in Sea Island, GA. This year she's moving
the event to a nearby site on St. Simon Island. It's a
wonderful place to learn from Audrey in the mornings and
play duplicate in the afternoons and evenings.
I'm hoping to attend and run games for Audrey again this
year. She doesn't really advertise the festivals much
because she tends to sell out every year! If this sounds
like part of a great winter vacation to you, you might want
to look into it soon. You can see all of her festivals here:

See you all soon!
