Play of the Hand and Defense this summer

July and August 2018

I've just opened enrollment for two special classes this summer on Thursday evenings at beautiful Oneonta Congregational in South Pasadena.

I'm offering four weeks on Play of the Hand starting July 19, followed by four weeks on Defense starting August 9.

The Longest Day Benefit for Alzheimer's Association

I'm hosting a one-of-a-kind bridge game on Thursday evening, June 21 (the longest day!) joining ACBL in their annual benefit for the Alzheimer's Association.

It's a day to play a marathon of bridge and raise money in the fight against Alzheimer's.  I'm expecting a few players to play an afternoon game in Glendale, then out to play my game in the evening!

My game will be held at the San Marino Masonic Center, 3130 Huntington Drive, San Marino.  Game time is 7:00 p.m.

I'll actually hold two games simultaneously: one section open to all players, and one section limited to players under 100 masterpoints (99ers).   In the spirit of "the longest day," this will be a full-length bridge game of about 3-1/2 hours, similar to tournament events.

Charity game masterpoint awards are huge, and the cause is worthy. Card fees are $15 per player.

Monday night bridge going strong

Every Monday evening at the San Marino Masonic Center, we have about 8-12 tables of players with a wide range of experience levels, but all are non-Life Masters.

The game is short by bridge standards, 14 boards, about two hours.  After each game there's a brief postmortem to discuss interesting hands that came up during the game and a bridge topic of interest.

Lots of new players from this year's bridge classes are playing!

The Monday night game will be dark on June 4 and 11.

Jane and I are off on an Alaska cruise for the first two weeks in June.  This will be my first excursion working on Seabourn Cruise Lines as "guest staff" teaching and conducting bridge games.

It's a tough job, but ... you know ... ! :-)
