Playing and learning online
We are certainly living in interesting times.
There's still bridge to play and learn! It serves as a great
way to distract, relax, and even socialize while not leaving
home.
Special Zoom seminar this Sunday
This Sunday, July 7, at 3:30, I'd like to offer a free Zoom
seminar about playing online bridge socially.
This won't be oriented towards playing ACBL games, but
getting together online with your friends and having a table
for fun.
I'll also teach you how to play with the BBO Robots. They're
always available to fill empty seats at a table, or even all
three seats besides your own.
I'm betting that most of you are familiar with Zoom by now.
If you can run Zoom and have a second screen (or window) to
log in to BridgeBase.com you can be part of the seminar and
demonstration.
Send me a reply if you'd like an invitation to the meeting!
BYO wine and snacks. :)
Online bridge classes
On my web site I have an offer for semi-private classes.
These can mostly be scheduled at your convenience. Visit
here to see what's available: https://bridgemojo.com/class
We hold the class with a combination of Zoom for
presentation and discussion, and Bridge Base Online to play
actual hands. Class size is limited to four players, with
possible additional kibitzers to watch and rotate in.
If you already have a foursome who would enjoy getting a
refresher, some coaching while playing with random boards,
or practice covering a specific topic, this is just the
thing!
If you don't have a foursome, I'm keeping a list of students
who would like to hear about other small groups getting
together to play and practice.
You can reply to this note and let me know what topics would
interest you most.
Right now I'm looking for a pair or three who would
like to join a group to study Play of the Hand and Defense
over a series of lessons.
Building a virtual bridge Club
Across the country, the ACBL has worked with bridge club
managers and online bridge provider Bridge Base Online (BBO)
to attempt to recreate and preserve local bridge clubs.
In line with that here, we created a new "virtual bridge
club" to serve the bridge players in three local units of
the ACBL, and share the proceeds with the shuttered clubs.
There's a link in the left column to the Pasadena Pomona
Downey VBC (Virtual Bridge Club).
We're playing open games every day, with limited games on
Monday evenings and Saturday mornings. Monday evening is
limited to players with fewer than 1,000 masterpoints, and
Saturday morning fewer than 500.
About the Pasadena Bridge Club
I was all set to open the Pasadena Bridge Club this summer.
I was planning a June 1 opening date, and had an agreement
for a lease in Old Town Pasadena. Lucky for me, I believe,
the landlord waited just long enough for me to escape
signing a lease.
I've postponed my plans now to January 2021. If the same
space isn't available, there should be excellent locations
available for very good terms. The Pasadena Bridge Club will
be a thing soon.
Final note: In my headshot, that's not how my hair looks
now! :)
Best regards,
Mojo
